About the Event

The conference topic will be: “Conversations on Atonement.” The conversations will center around two books: Reclaiming the Atonement: An Orthodox Theology of Redemption (volume 1) by Fr. Patrick Reardon, and On the Tree of the Cross: Georges Florovsky and the Patristic Doctrine of Atonement with an introduction by Dr. Marcus Plested. The conference will begin with Mass with Bishop John Abdalah presiding, then proceed to conversations with Fr. Reardon and Dr. Plested, followed by an open discussion. First Vespers for Sunday will conclude the conference.

OUR SPEAKERS

Dr. Marcus Plested (D.Phil., Oxford University, 1999) is an Associate Professor of Greek Patristic and Byzantine Theology at Marquette University. He has taught, lectured, and published widely in patristic, Byzantine, and modern Orthodox theology. His publications include Orthodox Readings of Aquinas and he wrote the introduction for On the Tree of the Cross: Georges Florovsky and the Patristic Doctrine of Atonement.

Fr. Patrick Reardon is a retired priest at All Saints’ Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois, and a senior editor of Touchstone magazine. Fr. Patrick was educated at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, St. Anselm’s College, The Pontifical Biblical Institute, and St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Seminary. Among his many publications, Fr. Patrick is the author of Reclaiming the Atonement: The Incarnation.
